Karter Knox is a true three-level scoring off-guard. Standing at 6'6" and weighing 220 lbs, Knox is a bulldog on the perimeter and has developed a strong ability to use his size to his advantage both on the wing and near the basket. Inside the arc, Knox is a plus finisher, combining physicality with a smooth finishing touch. He’s effective at cutting without the ball and creating opportunities for himself near the rim.

In the midrange, Knox excels in the dribble pull-up game, showing impressive ability to create his own shot in that area. While his jumper lacks some consistency, particularly when shooting off the dribble (shoulders down), Knox has demonstrated that his natural touch allows him to be an effective shooter, even from beyond the arc, pre-Arkansas. His shooting mechanics have shown promise, and his ability to stretch the floor has potential as he refines his game. Karter Knox is an intriguing perimeter defensive prospect and currently a positive defender for his age. His combination of physicality and athleticism allows him to defend virtually any guard and most small wings. While Knox can occasionally struggle against elite speed on the perimeter, he has shown significant improvement in defending on the ball at the high school level and has taken strides in improving his switchability.
Knox has shown flashes of defending larger forwards in switch situations. As he continues to grow and develop, his defensive ability should follow suit. With his size, strength, and active hands, Knox has the tools to evolve into a strong defender at multiple positions.
Karter Knox currently ranks 24th on my personal NBA Draft big board entering the college basketball season, making him the second-highest-ranked off-guard in my rankings. Knox projects as an ideal secondary creator and spot-up shooter in the NBA, with plus positional size and strength that gives him the potential to develop into a versatile offensive and defensive player. Knox is the younger brother of Kevin Knox, a former NBA lottery pick who also played under John Calipari at Kentucky. The Knox family has a long history of athleticism, particularly with his father, who played in the NFL. When you watch Karter, his build and playing style may remind you of a football player. His bulldog physique and strength allow him to overpower defenders, particularly opposing guards, making him difficult to contain on the hardwood. Knox often wins the strength battle against other guards, which helps him create opportunities in the midrange and at the rim for himself, as well as for teammates.
Defensively, Knox’s strength enables him to switch effectively and guard virtually any guard, as well as small forwards. His athleticism, combined with his strength, makes him a potent defender on both ends of the floor, contributing to his high upside.
In high school, Karter Knox demonstrated his scoring ability in both the EYBL and Overtime Elite leagues, proving he was one of the top scorers in his class. He averaged over 19 points per game in both leagues, showing that he can attack the rim with aggression and finish with touch, as well as create his own shot in the midrange. He’s also developed into a reliable catch-and-shoot threat from behind the arc and has shown the ability to be effective as a shooter in transition. Defensively, Knox’s size and strength play a crucial role in creating steals and blocks. He’s particularly effective off the ball, where his length and motor allow him to make impact plays. On the ball, Knox is aggressive, often forcing steals on the perimeter and effectively switching between perimeter players and smaller forwards. When his motor is running high and his hands are active, Knox is one of the best off-ball defenders in his class.
Karter Knox is a firm first-round prospect entering the 2025 NBA Draft and a player who could see his stock rise into the lottery range by the end of the college basketball season. His blend of scoring versatility, defensive potential, and strong physical tools gives him a high ceiling, making him a player to watch closely as his game continues to develop.
